Skywatch over the Parrog

Skywatch - just caught these shots on a few days away last week. The sky suddenly took on an amazing hue of colour which reflected in the harbour waters at the Parrog in Wales

Also there was other things happening in the harbour to add to the magic

The Newport rowing team were coming round the headland from Cwm -yr Iglis ( centre of pic)

The beating of the oars and the cries of success from the rowers echoed round the bay.

Shadow Shot Sunday and the Parrog part one

We have just returned from a few days away just relaxing - mainly walking - taking pics and passing the time of day with fellow travellers and local people - who have a passionate love for their villages - their history and their beautiful coastline.

The Parrog is a magical place just down from Newport - Pembrokeshire - UK.

I just needed to share these shots of the fishermens' cottages in the harbour casting their chimneypot shadows onto the beach and also onto their sister rooftops

Some years ago this was a bustling harbour - going about its thriving business - now the little fishermens' cottages - have been refurbished - but are still used by boating people - but more now for leisure rather than earning a crust of bread.

Shadows and other titbits

Just a few titbits from the week and a contribution th Shadow Shot Sunday.

My first few pics were taken at the Malpas Yesterday Rally in Cheshire - shadows being the priority and in evidence and what a wonderful array of exhibits - and look at the shadows they cast.

Vintage motorcycles not quite your Harley but in their day someone's dream and even now getting more than a glance.

What about this bus - who-ooo! away to the seaside on a mad excursion ! a lot of these vehicles do get taken out on runs and I believe great fun is had by all !

Now what about ths for an invention - an old lorry cyclinder - converted to burn kindling - and an improvised chimney boils this lovely old brass kettle - what a cuppa eh!

Romany caravans and their horses were dotted around the show ground - colourful and charismatic - this is one of many.

What about this Romany dog - I fell in love !

Moving on - look at this monster heaving away in the allotment - - - already for Halloween - twice the size of his brothers and sisters -surely it will take pride of place on the night !

ABC Wednesday and H is for....

ABC Wednesday and a few favourite H pics and thoughts to share - first one is H is for Harvest - lots of Hard work and Happy celebration of bringing the Harvest Home.

This lady was demonstrating the art of making a corn dolly - from times gone by at the working farm museum visited a few weeks back - earlier that day we watched as a television crew filmed the action for a local programme.

We were told that each county had a different style of corn dolly - - which represented the spirit of the corn

H is for Heather - and the Back to Purple - project - to get the local Stiperstones Hill back to its original habitat

Hebridean sheep - a robust sheep - graze the young saplings - which would soon return the hillsides back into wooded areas - smothering the heather and hillside plants

H is for Heron a long legged bird - seen at the local reserve - Venus Pool - on a recent visit

H is for Hang Glider soaring high over the Welsh Coast at Aberystwyth - watched recently on a day away

H is for helicopter - and Elton John leaving the Greenhouse arena at Shrewsbury after a momentous event

H is for Thomas Hardy - 1840 -1928 - British novelist and poet - novels include Tess of the D'urbervilles and Far from the Madding Crowd

How about for a finale we all join a Harmonious sing song during Happy Hour at the local Hostelry!

Shadows - Castles- and of course Pictures

Shadow Shot Sunday and a day out to Chirk Castle - first a morning walk for a browse around at the car boot and then on to chase a little history.

Chirk Castle was built between 1295-1310 - had many owners of which at least 5 were executed for treason.

In 1595 the estate was sold to a merchant adventurer Thomas Myddleton and remained in that family until 1978 when the estate was handed over to the National Trust
-

Look at the tree shadows dancing on the castle turret

Castle walls and more shadows

Through the gateway into the courtyard

Larking about in the stocks

Welsh flag flies high over the clock tower

The magnificent state dining room

Birds' eye view from the castle turret window

Looking back ! - a great day out - I forgot to mention the honey comb icecream consumed in the courtyard - well it is to be recommended!

A random week of walks - in between work and chores - must post these pics for Skywatch

Sun setting over Welsh Hills - walking through the cornfield

Blue blue skies over the Church Stretton hills - today Sept 1st

Incredible skies over Black Top at author Mary Webb's Ratchope- taken 31st August

Finally a glimpse of Bomere Pool at sunset - my how the midges were biting .

A walk through the woods - a few weeks back- proved to be a walk to paradise

Bomere Pool is the setting for Mary Webb's Precious Bane - well worth a read as are all Mary Webb books - Bomere Pool alias Sarn Pool in the book

I could not resist these shots - the setting sun glistened down on the water - playing tricks with the water
